Covid-19 - What you should know and a Suggestive list of Essentials

Currently the whole world is fighting with a deadly pandemic caused by a new virus from the Corona Family of Viruses named as Covid-19. We (Humans) have not been able to identify a cure for same as of now.

As we all know, currently we are almost midway through a country wide lock-down issued by Govt of India. Many of us are struggling to get things we were used to for our day to day lives, moreover we are hardly able to get our hands on essentials. Most of the online delivery partners like Big Basket, Groffers, Amazon Now, Flipkart Groceries, Swiggy stores are not able to cater to all the rise in demand and have been cancelling lots of orders or not even taking new orders.


Many of us are struggling to maintain a healthy eating habits and are currently surviving on junk food and ready to make stuff. I would like to help out those people to maintain a healthy pantry and try their hands on cooking healthy staple food for a change. I will be sharing a 7 days Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner plan that can be used by anyone. On Next post i will also share the recipes for same through my podcasts and posts.

What are the must have essential staples needed to survive through this pandemic?
For most of us who were use to a busy lifestyle, due to which we were not able to focus on maintaining a healthy diet, due to which our overall health gets affected. We can look at this whole lock-down situation in a positive way and get things back on track for our overall health.

Following are the suggestive list of staples that we can try to procure (For a family of 4 - 2 adults, 2 kids for a Week Approx cost - Rs. 1500-1800 per week),
  • Rice - 2 Kgs (Depending on the rice consumption and your choice of rice)
  • Aata - 2 Kgs 
  • Toor Dal - 1 Kg
  • Yellow Moong Dal - 1 Kg 
  • Split Moong Dal - 1 Kg
  • Orange Masoor Dal - 1 Kg
  • Chole - 500 gms
  • Rajma - 500 gms
  • Poha - 1 Kg
  • Besan - 1 Kg
  • Suji - 1 Kg
  • Oats - 1 Kg
  • Bambino Vermicelli (Semolina or Rice) - 1 Kg
  • Oil 1 Litre
  • Ghee - 500 gms
  • Potatoes - 2 Kgs
  • Tomatoes - 2 Kgs
  • Onions - 2 Kgs
  • Lemon - 5
  • Green Chillies - 100 gms
  • Ginger - 100 gms
  • Garlic - 100 gms
  • Coriander - 250 gms
  • Curry Leaves - 100 gms
  • Salt - 500 gms
  • Pepper - 100 gms
  • Garam masala - 100 gms
  • Red chilli powder - 100 gms
  • Turmeric - 100 gms
  • Jeera - 100 gms
  • Dhaniya powder - 100 gms
  • Peanuts - 500 gms
  • Mustard seeds - 100 gms
  • Sambar masala - One pack
  • Sabji Masala - One Pack
  • Kasturi Methi - 200 gms
  • Eggs, Curd, Milk and Bread as per availability - Alternate days or once in 3 days will also do
Please note this is a suggestive list you can add or subtract items based on your choice. Further i will be posting recipes using only the ingredients mentioned in the above list.
